Container Fire Aboard Evergreen's Ever Lenient at Singapore's Pasir Panjang Terminal

A container fire broke out aboard the Evergreen container ship Ever Lenient while berthed at PSA Pasir Panjang Terminal in Singapore on April 10, triggering a major overnight firefighting operation. The fire was fully extinguished by the afternoon of April 11 with no residual heat detected.

On the 12th of April, the vessel was moved to another port in Singapore to not delay port operations at Pasir Panjang Terminal.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force led the firefighting response. No crew injuries were reported and no oil pollution was detected. PSA Singapore is assisting with the discharge of affected containers.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lithium-ion battery cargo is suspected as a contributing factor, though this has not been officially confirmed.

No further details on the extent of container damage or the number of boxes affected have been publicly disclosed.

An investigation is ongoing. No independent investigation authority has been confirmed.
