Kuwaiti LPG Carrier Gas Al Ahmadiah Struck 23NM East of Fujairah

The Kuwaiti-flagged liquefied petroleum gas carrier Gas Al Ahmadiah was struck by an unknown projectile while at anchor approximately 23 nautical miles east of Fujairah, UAE, UKMTO reported.

The vessel sustained minor structural damage. No crew injuries were reported and no environmental impact was detected. The Gas Al Ahmadiah was stationary at anchor at the time of the strike.

Gas Al Ahmadiah is a VLGC-class LPG carrier built in 2020, measuring 229 metres LOA with a deadweight of 54,503 tonnes.

Maritime security sources told Reuters the impact was most likely caused by fragments from an airborne interceptor rather than a direct projectile strike, suggesting the vessel may have been caught in proximity to an aerial intercept event.

The incident occurred in the Gulf of Oman approaches east of Fujairah, a major regional bunkering hub that has seen elevated strike and intercept activity in recent weeks. UKMTO has advised all vessels to transit the area with caution and report suspicious activity.

Authorities are investigating. UKMTO is coordinating with regional naval forces.
