Turkey’s Directorate General of Coastal Safety has reported that the LPG tanker Gas Catalina suffered a machinery failure on 29 November while navigating off Dark Harbour, near the entrance of the Çanakkale Strait. No injuries or pollution were recorded as a result of the incident.
According to authorities, the response was coordinated through the Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Center, which dispatched support to ensure the vessel’s safe handling. Under the escort of a pilot captain, a tug towed the tanker to Dark Harbour, where it anchored without further complications.
The Gas Catalina is a 1998-built LPG tanker sailing under the flag of Palau. According to ShipAtlas, the tanker was on its way from Zueitina, in Libya the the problems occured. At this time the vessel is still anchored near Çanakkale in Turkey.
The cause of the machinery failure has not yet been disclosed.
