Tanker Attacked by Pirates in Gulf of Guinea, Shipping Risks Re-emerge
A chemical tanker — likely Endo Ponente — is reported hijacked 56 nautical miles off Lomé, marking a rare but sharp reminder of rising risks in the Gulf of Guinea.
The Norwegian government has approved NOK 155 million in funding for nine port projects through the grant scheme for efficient and environmentally friendly ports.
The funding will be used for digitalization, quay improvements, and enhanced road access to ports, according to a press release from the government.
“The government aims to strengthen coastal regions and maritime transport,” said the Minister of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, Marianne Sivertsen Næss.
She emphasized the importance of government support in enabling infrastructure development:
“State support for infrastructure investments helps make possible projects that would not be implemented under normal conditions.”
Projects receiving support are located across Norway, including ports in Oslo (LOCODE: NOOSL), Kristiansand (LOCODE: NOKRS), and Bodø (LOCODE: NOBOO).
According to NTB, this year’s funding represents the largest annual allocation since the infrastructure grant scheme was launched in 2019.
The grant scheme is administered by the Norwegian Coastal Administration and provides financial support for investments in both physical infrastructure and digital solutions. It aims to accelerate the green transition in the transport sector and strengthen the role of maritime transport in the national logistics network.
