Damaged cargo ship towed from city harbour
Based on advice from the Tromsø fire departure that the ship should not be repaired in Tromsø, the ship continues on its journey with search and rescue on standby.
The potentially explosive cargo laden bulker Ruby (IMO: 9626390), still hasn't found safe harbour. The cargo ship departed its temporary anchor point close to Tromsø (LOCODE: NOTOS), Norway on September 17th, and left Norwegian waters this Monday, September 23rd heading for Valletta (LOCODE: MTMLA), Malta, their flag state, according to their AIS input.
However, Maltese authorities has stated the ship will not be allowed into Malta before she disposes of her cargo , which was confirmed by the Transport Ministry, who also highlighted that access to the port would depend on available space at the dry dock.
Because of her damages, the ship is being followed by the tugboat Amber II (IMO 9425423). The ship is currently at anchor in the greater London area, close to the port of Tilbury (LOCODE: GBTIL), United Kingdom.
Ruby has previously been turned away by Norway, Sweden and Lithuania, as well as facing restrictions imposed by Denmark while crossing the Baltic Sea, because of her dangerous cargo.
