Damaged cargo ship towed from city harbour
Based on advice from the Tromsø fire departure that the ship should not be repaired in Tromsø, the ship continues on its journey with search and rescue on standby.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė announced on Thursday that Ruby (IMO: 9626390), a dry bulk vessel carrying 20,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, will not be permitted to enter Klaipėda (LOCODE: LTKLJ), with its cargo still loaded.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the 37,000 DWT Ruby, a dry bulk vessel loaded with 20,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, had applied to offload its cargo while carrying out necessary repairs in Klaipėda, Lithuania, after being turned away by Norway. Early morning Thursday September 13, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė announced that the shipment will not be allowed to enter the port
The vessel has been permitted to offload its cargo at an undisclosed port. While the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority has no objections to allowing the Ruby to dock without its cargo, it remains uncertain whether the ship can be repaired in Klaipėda, and no final decision has been made yet.
