February - New faces and product enhancements

Welcome back to our monthly newsletter!

February has been yet another exciting month for us, it's amazing how a few extra minutes of daylight can boost our spirits and productivity ☀️ During February we have welcomed 2 new colleagues; Martin Etnestad Johansen and Rubén Álvarez Borjabad has joined the tech-team as backend developers.

Revenues and number of users in ShipIntel and ShipAtlas are growing quickly, and we had the pleasure of signing a contract with Sibelco, a large mining company focused on silica, clays, feldspathics and olivine. We've done improvements in the sea route and design and are working on the larger features we are planning to launch end of March.

Let's get into it ⬇️

February recap 🌱

📈Increase in users & paying customers

Our community has experienced solid growth this month, with an increase both in new users and paying customers.

In ShipIntel, our software for companies and professionals (working in teams) involved in maritime business, we've been delighted to see existing customers upgrading their subscriptions and continuing their journey with us. This period has also welcomed many new customers, including Sibelco.

ShipAtlas, our application for individuals who want to follow specific ships, has passed 300 000 registered users!

Seeing our community flourish and expand is exciting and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team.

👍 Product updates

February has been spent refining and upgrading existing features based on user feedback, making them even better and user-friendly, and working on future releases 🫨 We are developing some major new features which we are planning to launch during the following months.

We have also adjusted the prices in ShipIntel, however, it is still the most affordable software for companies involved in maritime business.

The modules in the Essentials Toolbox costs from € 38,17 per month per seat. In the Essential toolbox you will find these modules; Live AIS, Historical AIS, Sea Route Calculator, Vessel and Port Lists and Port & Area monitoring. Modules that any company involved in maritime business just "need to have".

🌊 Seminar: Freedom of the seas

On Tuesday, February 27th, we attended the annual general meeting of the Shipping Offshore Network, followed by the seminar "Freedom of the Seas" where Iver B.Neumann , Ulf Sverdrup , Sverre Diesen and Svein Ringbakken presented the changing geopolitical and political landscape, wars and conflicts.

Maritime Optima was invited to show how conflicts and unforeseen activities have influenced the main sea routes within different shipping segments, with a short presentation visualizing a vast amount of data compiled by our data scientist Simen Omholt-Jensen

A big thanks to Shipping & Offshore Network and Tom O. Kleppestø for inviting us to be a part of your "Freedom of the Seas" seminar!

⁉️ The Customer Success Corner

In this section we present some of the most asked questions with answers from our customer success service. In February we received many questions about sea routes and activity in ports and canals.

Can I have alternative sea routes to if I route from a vessel or a port to a port?

Yes! In ShipIntel you will always get the shortest sea route from a vessel's live AIS position to a port or if you create a sea route from a port to a port. We also show you alternative sea routes so you can select the one you prefer. For all sea routes you will find fuel consumption and carbon emissions. If the vessel is too large to pass a canal or straits, you will get an alert in the map.

Check out the Sea Route Calculator in ShipIntel.

Can I add notifications if one vessel or a fleet of vessel arrive og depart specific ports or areas?

Yes, you can customize notifications for you and your team, and be notified if vessels set a destination to a port, arrives or depart an anchorage, port, or area.

You can also be notified if vessels pass specific lines. You can set these notification as private notifications or you can sent them to your whole team. You can receive notifications on both your laptop and mobile.

Do I find potential congestion at specific anchorages?

Yes, with the module Port & Area Monitoring you can find which and how many vessels are waiting at specific anchorages and doing cargo operations in specific ports.

You can also see when they arrived, what type of vessels are waiting and whether the vessels are in laden or ballast condition. The vessels are listed in a table so you can filter and search. You can also find statistics showing average time in a port for specific types of vessels. Like average time spent for tanker vessels in Ras Tanuara during a specific period of time.
