The continuous flow of information makes treatment and evaluation of the collected data necessary for judgment of the current situation and trends in the freight markets. Working in the chartering department therefore includes many hours of reading emails, doing voyage calculations, comparing the TCE for different vessels vs. the market trends and giving out offers via email.
In Maritime Optima you can do voyage calculations for dry cargo vessels, tankers and LPG. Later you can do voyage calculations for chemical vessels and LNG.
Voyage calculations and a risk management system are important decision-making tools for people working in maritime chartering. So even though real-time data, machine learning, algorithms, and deep learning will dominate the years ahead, voyage calculations will continue to be the backbone for commercial decisions and investments.
By using Maritime Optima's «Pre-calc & Compare», you will save many hours each day that you can spend on other value-creating work.
You can quickly do "back of the envelope" voyage calculations for one vessel or voyage calculations for a fleet of vessels and/or cargoes.
You can run voyage pre-calculations from many places in Maritime Optima:
If you do voyage calculations for a group of vessels and cargoes you can optimize the TCE for a group of vessels and/or cargoes and the system helps you to remember why you chose a cargo before another when you later go back and check.
Set up your fleet of vessels and assign the commercial responsibility to your colleagues so each of you quickly can do voyage pre-calculations on a group of vessels and compare the TCE results for vessels in a position to lift the cargo. Each colleague will get a list of vessels under their responsibility.
Maybe you want to benchmark some of your vessels with external vessels, because you consider to charter in a vessel for a period of time. You can set up a portfolio of the cargoes your fleet mostly carry and compare carbon emissions and TCEs since some vessels might give a better TCE if they carry grain while others are better with coal. You can compare the TCE for the vessels for specific cargoes and trades, and you can add specific vessels or list of external vessels you want to benchmark with your fleet.
Instead of spending a lot of time adding and punching and doing voyage calculations one by one, you can calculate the TCE for a group of vessels and/or cargoes in seconds and they are stored in your cargo library and work space.
Select the grade of bunkers you prefer and the emissions will be shown in your voyage calculations. We will auto calculate the carbon emissions for each voyage calculation and you can can decide how you want to optimise your earnings and minimize the carbon emissions.
Add the cargo details of any cargo. The cargo will be added to your cargo library for later reference. On each cargo quote /card you add as many port combination as you like and all voyage calculations will be done in a couple of minutes. Contact us if you want to auto parse these cargoes into your cargo library.
Choose which segment you are in; dry-cargo, tankers, LPG or LNG. Create a workspace and name it as you like. For example: “Cargill 70 000 mt ex USG” , or “Open positions week 42 in Atlantic” etc. Now you can access the voyage calculations you have done, and add new cargoes to your workspace if new cargoes come in the market.
The TCE, the cargo emissions and days needed to perform the voyage for different vessels will be listed so you quickly can compare vessels and cargoes, sort and filter. Click on any of the voyage calculations and find how we have calculated the voyage.
If the vessels you add are missing some information or if your vessels are too late for the laycan dates or they can't load the minimum cargo, you get a warning.
If you are happy with the voyage calculations you can give an indication or an offer by select "Give an offer" and access a pre-filled email opened directly from the voyage calculation card, with the cargo details and the freight rate you plan to offer. You can quickly adjust it and send it to your broker. A team user log will show all the team's activity.
Use "My fleet" and voyage pre-calculations to quickly compare the TCE earnings for a group of cargoes and vessels. You will save hours each day reading e-mails, calculating and sending e-mails.
After you have decided which cargo you want to offer in on, click on Give an offer and a auto filled in e-mail will pop up, with the main details. The first offer in a falling market might mean you get the cargo. If you want to parse e-mails for positions and/or cargoes directly to your workspace, send us an e-mail and we will assist.
